Senior Scientist in X-Ray Refraction and X-Ray Optics

Level 13 TVöD

Part time is possible


Main Duties:

  • Method development in X-ray refraction techniques: Refraction Computer Tomography, Talbot-Lau Imaging, Reconstruction Algorithms. Deployment dedicated sample environment (in-situ high temperature, corrosion chamber, mechanical loads)
  • Leading participation to (international) industrial-related and norming activity; development and use of reference measurements; active applications to external funding bodies; collaboration with working groups in NDT and Materials Science; leading role in co-operation with colleagues inside BAM, with research Institutions abroad and in Germany, with industrial partners, and governmental Entities
  • Development and establishment of industrial applications of X-ray refraction methods, especially in the fields of: Aeronautics, Light Materials, High-Performance Ceramics

Supervision of graduate and undergraduate Students, as well as technical Personnel in the field of X-ray optics

Profile requirements:

  • University Degree with Ph.D. in Physics or equivalent (e.g., Crystallography, Optics)
  • Relevant experience in the fields mentioned above, proven by publications, scientific documentation, and external funding
  • Excellent knowledge of imaging methods, especially X-Ray Refraction and Tomography. An advantage is experience in materials characterization by means of X-ray and Neutron scattering, and/or in non-destructive testing
  • Solid background in Materials Science or similar disciplines
  • Team-oriented and communicative work style. Proven listening and communication skills
  • Creativity, motivation and social skills
  • English is a must, German is a plus
