 Starting: February 1st, 2014, we look for a

Research assistant

(Ph.D. student)

Physics, Optics or Engineering

Level 13 TVöD,

 18 months

with optional 18-month extension

The BAM Ph.D program includes specific salary options.

The salary depends on the applicant’s academic discipline (science or engineering).


Main Duties:

Ph.D. work: "Development of a laboratory X-ray imaging set-up based on Talbot-Lau technique":

ˇ         Conception, development, construction, and validation of a laboratory set-up based on grating interferometry for non-destructive materials characterization by X-rays

ˇ         Conception of appropriate test samples

ˇ         Application to diverse micro-structured functional materials

ˇ          Co-operation with other research groups and scientific documentation (presentations, papers, reports)


Profile requirements:

ˇ         University degree in physics or engineering (crystallography, solid state physics, or electrical engineering)

ˇ           Relevant experience in the following fields:

- X-ray scattering techniques

- Optical interferometry

- Digital image processing and analysis

ˇ           Good command of one or more relevant programming languages (in particular: LabView, C, or MatLab)

ˇ            Good command of written and spoken English; German would be a plus
