Senior Research Engineer The Penn
State Electro-Optics Center (EOC) is a science and
technology-based laboratory serving as a Defense Related
Research Unit within The Pennsylvania State University.
In this role the EOC is an integral part of one of the
leading research universities in the nation and provides
research, development, systems engineering and technology
transfer for a wide range of Department of Defense and
Industrial Sponsors. The EOC works very closely
with the Penn State Materials Research Institute, the
Penn State Applied Research Laboratory, numerous academic
departments, DoD/Government Laboratories and Industry.
The primary mission of the EOC is to develop and
transition electronics and electro-optics technologies
needed for the advancement of the nations defense
capabilities. Due to the
expansion in programs for development of electronic
materials, devices and sensors, there is a need for a
Senior Research Engineer in the Penn State Electro-Optics
Center Materials Group located in University Park (State
College, PA). This position requires extensive experience
in semiconductor device fabrication and characterization. Qualifications:
Candidates should possess and be able to apply advanced
knowledge of semiconductor device design, fabrication and
characterization to develop and transition RF, IR, and
radiation detection technology. Candidates are expected
to have a minimum of a MS degree (PhD preferred) in
materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or a
related field, with at least 15 years of experience in
advanced semiconductor device fabrication and evaluation.
Supervisory experience and expertise in semiconductor
material characterization (SEM, Raman, XPS, XRD, TEM,
Electrical characterization) are definite pluses. Key Result
Areas and Responsibilities: Serve
as the technical lead for applied research and
development projects for a wide range of DoD and
industrial sponsors. In addition, collaboration with
academic faculty within Penn State and with other
academic institutions for basic research projects is a
key requirement. Develop
and lead experimental applied research programs for
fabrication, testing, and analysis of a variety of
devices including RF transistors, high voltage diodes,
radiation detection sensors, and infrared sensors.
Materials systems of interest currently include graphene,
graphene-oxide, AlGaN/GaN, gadolinium oxide, boron
nitride and molybdenum disulfide. Lead
efforts to improve transistor performance beyond
state-of-the-art by carefully evaluating device
parasitics via I/V, C/V, pulsed I/V, and RF
characterization; and subsequently addressing parasitics
through experimental research. Lead
efforts for the study and optimization of sensor
performance including interfacing with nuclear
engineering and infrared characterization staff. Support
for characterization and fabrication of piezoelectric
materials may also be required. .Responsible
for direct supervision of an experienced staff of
fabrication and characterization technicians and will be
required to work closely with graduate and undergraduate
students. This is a
standing appointment within the EOC. Must be a U.S.
Citizen to apply. Applicants
