| Research Associate Job #36183 The
Electro-Optics Center (EOC) is a science and
technology-based laboratory serving as a Defense Related
Research Unit within The Pennsylvania State University.
In this role the EOC is an integral part of one of the
leading research universities in the nation and provides
research, development, systems engineering and technology
transfer for a wide range of Department of Defense and
Industrial Sponsors. The EOC works very closely with the
Penn State Materials Research Institute, the Penn State
Applied Research Lab, and numerous academic departments.
The EOC and its alliance of over 400 companies,
university and government laboratories serve to nurture
the development and transition electronics and
electro-optics technologies needed for the advancement of
the nations defense capabilities. The EOC is a
hybrid between the best components of a university and
those of private industry. This relationship allows
us access to the universitys researchers and
scientists, its state-of-the-art facilities and leading
edge research. Our staff, comprised primarily of former
industrial and DoD personnel, brings experience in
exceeding sponsor and corporate expectations. Through the
application of this hybrid model, the EOC is able to
provide its sponsors with solutions that combine leading
edge research with on-time and on-budget deliveries. EOC
is currently looking to fill a Research Associate
position in our Materials Department. There is a
current need for a Research Associate (Research Faculty)
in the Penn State Electro-Optics Center Materials
Division located in University Park (State College, PA)
with expertise in semiconductor device fabrication and
characterization. Successful candidates will possess and
apply advanced knowledge of semiconductor device design,
fabrication and characterization to develop and
transition RF, IR and radiation detection technology.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD degree in materials
science, electrical engineering, physics, or a related
field, along with five years of experience. At
least two years of that experience must be in device
fabrication and evaluation. Knowledge in semiconductor
and device fabrication and testing is essential, with
knowledge in device design also required. Candidate
responsibilities will include leading experimental
research programs for fabrication, testing, and analysis
of a variety of devices including RF transistors, high
voltage diodes, radiation detection sensors, and infrared
sensors. Materials systems of interest currently
include graphene, graphene-oxide, AlGaN/GaN, gadolinium
oxide, boron nitride and molybdenum disulfide.
Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for
leading efforts to improve transistor performance beyond
state-of-the-art by carefully evaluating device
parasitics via I/V, C/V, pulsed I/V, and RF
characterization; and subsequently addressing parasitics
through experimental research. Over time, the candidate
will also lead efforts for the study and optimization of
sensor performance including interfacing with nuclear
engineering and infrared characterization staff. This is
a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of
hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. Must be a
U.S. Citizen to apply. Applicants should submit resume to: kmckean@eoc.psu.edu and reference Job #36288. Applications will be accepted until job is filled. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION about the Electro-Optics Center or current position vacancies, visit our web site at www.eoc.psu.edu. The
Pennsylvania State University/Electro-Optics Center
offers an exceptional benefits package, including a 75%
tuition discount for employees, their spouse or domestic
partner and eligible dependents. Penn State
is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity and
the diversity of its workforce.
