Kaba
Ilco Corp, the world’s leading manufacturer of key
blanks, key duplicating machines, and replacement
cylinders, is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer for its
Rocky Mount operations in Eastern North Carolina. The
position provides metallurgy engineering support to our
metal foundry to meet complex engineering and process
engineering requirements for melting, casting, extrusion
and rolling mill for our Brass mill operations. This
position reports to the Brass mill Manager and provides
analytical engineering support concerning equipment,
tooling, materials and methods of production.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides metallurgical
process support for foundry operations to include
melting and casting brass into billets.
Runs assays using
spectrometers to determine proper formula for
furnace melts.
Directs quality control
procedures for Brassmill operations.
Research and implement
process changes to increase efficiency and
improve product quality.
Accountable for providing
technical input regarding proper customer
requirements to include the necessary control of
estimating, design, processing, and testing to
ensure all specifications are met.
Works with raw material
suppliers and with die suppliers.
Perform duties to conduct a
variety of specialized tests and analysis to
verify that products comply with material and
heat treat specifications and to analyze
non-conforming parts to determine cause and
source of defects.
Evaluate and initiate
requirements for new machinery and equipment
required in production process.
Must be able to
investigate, troubleshoot and resolve
manufacturing issues.
Will develop the
appropriate processes for metal formation and
final processing into metal coils, monitor their
effectiveness, solve problems to their root
causes and provide direction for continuous
improvement.
Will be expected to spend a
significant amount of time on the floor
interacting with the department workforce and
provide the support necessary to achieve the
desired results of the operations.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct reports. Will
train and instruct production operators, quality
inspectors, supervisors and other department
personnel on projects as needed.
EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE
Will possess a
Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science,
Metallurgical Engineering, or related field of
study.
5-10 years work experience
performing metallurgical engineering in a metals
manufacturing operation.
Requires knowledge of
mechanical testing, spectroscopy, tensile
machines, optical microscope and grinding
equipment.
Must have good oral,
written and interpersonal skills.
Should have strong math
background and have satisfactory knowledge
Microsoft office suites to include word and
excel.
