COMPANY: Powdermet, Inc.

POSITION: Research and Development Engineer

LOCATION: Euclid, Ohio

REPORTS TO: General Manager

Specific Responsibilities

§  Must possess knowledge of metallurgy, metal matrix composites, processing of metals including powder processing and deformation processing

§  Must have experience with nanostructured metals including processing

§  Utilize company’s unique facilities and proprietary nanoengineering techniques to develop and improve new composite, high temperature and energetic materials

§  Have ability to lead technical efforts in developing materials for defense (armor), aerospace (space and missile), energetic, clean energy and other applications

§  Detailed understanding of material science concepts, characterization techniques, basic chemistry and materials processing techniques is essential

§  Knowledge of metal powder processing, deformation processing, ceramic powder processing, sintering and CVD processes

§  Assist in the review and approval of contractor plans, including goals and objectives, work breakdown structure, detailed scope descriptions, detailed schedules, risk management approach, milestone descriptions and budgets and staffing requirements

§  Coordinate and perform field management assessments and audits/surveillance

§  Provide technical direction, serve as a point of contact or business liaison, prepare briefings for senior management and assist in problem resolution specific to the program/project

§  Design and test electronic products

§  Write manufacture and test procedures and reports

§  Participate in project teams and all activities related to the development of new products

§  Provide technical support to Sales and Marketing for bids and proposals

§  Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

§  PhD or Master’s Degree in a materials-related field, preferably metallurgy

§  Ability to work in a laboratory/pilot production environment with good knowledge of laboratory practices and safety procedures with understanding of process scale up

§  Exceptional writing and communication (presentation) skills are essential, as the position requires proposal generation, technical paper and report writing and technical collaboration on writing projects with other engineers

§  Experience in writing SBIR/STTR proposals is preferred

§  Must be disciplined, self-motivated, quick learning, and show passion for developing and launching new value- added, custom designed and engineered materials based on powder processing fabrication techniques

Physical Demands

·         Regularly required to speak and listen

·         Required to use hand to type, handle objects and paperwork

·         Required to reach and hold on to items at chest level or reach above the shoulder

·         Required to use close vision and be able to focus

·         Frequently required to sit, stand and bend at the knee and waist and move about the facility

Work Environment

·         Generally works in an indoor office environment

·         Exposed to any number of elements, but none present to the extent of being disagreeable

·         Overtime may be required
