Metallurgist Needed in Pomona CA $75k to $95k

Job Summary:

Conducts research to develop and improve methods of sand molding, melting, alloying, and pouring of metals: Makes experimental sand molds, and tests sand for permeability, strength, and chemical composition. Calculates quantity of alloying metals required. Performs periodic evaluations of data and product tests to develop improved foundry techniques and practices in product manufacture. Assists the foundry engineering staff in developing molding designs, gating, rigging and chilling schemes to ensure product meets design intent and customer requirements. Works with foundry management to propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives and assists in the reduction of costs, rework, scrap and/or rework of product.

Experience:

Months/Years: 7-10 years of related work experience, special focus in Foundry environment; Sand Casting, Aerospace applications servicing major OEM’s

Skills Required:

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field of study. Manufacturing experience in dry sand non-vacuum sand castings in aluminum and magnesium alloys is strongly preferred. This position requires a demonstrated understanding of metallurgy and material chemistry typically acquired through related field training and experience at the bachelor degree level; thorough knowledge of primary casting processes; advanced math skills including statistics; Computer skills: Access, word processing, spreadsheets, data analysis and administration; email and internet; written and oral communication skills; and technical report writing skills. Strong customer service and decision making skills are required. Metallographic material analysis experience. Strong mechanical drafting and design ability. Solidification modeling experience preferable
