development. We focus on undertaking leading edge
research, delivering innovative scientific services and
specialised advice to government, industry, academia and
other research organisations.
The
Institute of Materials Engineering is a major centre of
materials expertise in Australia with a multidisciplinary
team of scientists and engineers. The Institute plays a
significant role in maintaining Australia's international
profile in the field of nuclear science and technology.
The Institutes core mission is to: Develop,
manufacture, characterise, model and ultimately, utilise
Materials in support of the Advanced Nuclear Fuel Cycle
and next generation Nuclear Power generation systems.
We are
looking for a Scientist to join our Nuclear Wasteforms
team. Your objective will be to undertake tactical and
strategic research and development into ceramic and
glass-ceramics for the immobilisation of nuclear waste.
This position will also provide scientific and technical
support, plus advice, to ANSTO commercial nuclear
wasteform projects.
The
successful applicant will have a PhD. in Solid State
Science, Materials Science, Ceramics or equivalent or
related field. A sound knowledge of materials science and
related work experience, particularly in the fabrication
and testing of samples is necessary be successful in this
role.
In
addition, the applicant is expected to demonstrate the
ability to plan, organise and coordinate experimental
work and identify commercial applications for research
outcomes in addition to providing quality advice on
experimental and model-based evaluation techniques.
A willingness to work with radioactive materials after
training and under strict control is a requirement for
this position.
To be
eligible for appointment, applicants will require a
security and medical assessment and Australian citizens
are preferred.
